CVS is reportedly planning on selling a $100 netbook and $180 e-book reader, both built by Sylvania. As expected, the netbook does not run Windows 7 or XP. The budget device will be powered by Windows CE, according to leaked marketing materials posted on Engadget. Additional hardware specs remain unclear, although the advertisement highlights e-mail, web browsing, social networking and video streaming functionality.

The Look Book e-book reader features a 7-inch color LCD, full QWERTY keyboard, wireless connectivity, and 512GB of internal memory. Users will be able to expand the memory with an SD card, while books will be available from the Kobo portal.

The Look Book marketing sheet points to a launch date of September 19. An exact date isn't provided for the netbook, however both of the devices appear to be slated for the same “early Christmas” time-frame.

Have you received any strange emails from your girlfriends recently? You know the ones I am referring to, no subject in the heading and just a link to a website in the body of the email page. The name of the web link sounds interesting enough–words such as, women, health, life or care are conveniently nestled into the title. Without giving it a second thought we click the link and BAM, some hacker has you opening a full page advertisement–not to porn, but just as annoying–to a foreign drug marketer.

I got these infuriating emails from two different girl friends just this past month. Both were Canadian drug sale advertisements of Lipitor and the like. They have gotten so good at this type of sleuth marketing that they even offer the appropriate drugs for the corresponding age category.

Mixed with the outrage felt when friends email address lists are hacked into by the dark side of the Internet, is also the recognition that 40-plus-year-old women have begun to seize their power. And the rest of the world is beginning to notice. Even the people we necessarily want to notice. These world wide web thieves are clever folks and they are tapping into a powerful consumer base of influence. So while our hacked-into emails are maddening, they do represent a shift in the status of the 40-plus-year-old woman in the ever-growing social media networking world.

Do I dare state congratulations ladies? We mature women are now empowering, educating and supporting one another through social media in ways that are and inspiring. Every single day I learn about news and opportunities from my friends and colleagues. We are enriched by posted links to blog pages, interesting new ideas proposed and astonishing stories shared. We ask for feedback and get responses from around the world in numbers.

Recently a colleague needed an endorsement of 20 women to qualify for a short link on a site and in less than 24 hours had over 99 women signed on from all parts of the globe. Need help finding a trusted acupuncturist, hair colorist or automobile repair shop in your recently relocated city? Done. Ten minutes after tweeting a specific request for help most women have long lists of good, solid leads. Or how about just needing some emotional support for some far-fetched dream? A friend recently wrote on her Facebook page her latest desire to buy a farm and join the local growers slow food movement. Literally within a few hours she received the equivalent of a whole lot of cyber-hugs from friends cheering her on and offering assistance. That is a welcome reception in our super-stressed, overextended day-to-day lives.

So while vigilantly wanting to guard our privacy, mature women are also flexing our collective feminine muscle–spending more dollars than ever before online and becoming the fastest growing demographic in the social networking marketplace. Let's continue to encourage 40 plus year old women to collaborate and connect via the web. The possibilities are endless and exciting. We are just beginning to witness what women can accomplish together. And if we do get spammed, they give us the lead for a great moisturizer?

Quick marketing poll: Who has bought an industry contact index and used that to send out direct mail, email or some other marketing promotion?

Guiltily holding your hand up? You’re not alone, but it’s pretty well established that this approach no longer works. Playing the numbers game of a less than 1 percent response on marketing outreach to unknown contacts doesn’t have a future.

Social media and the decline of traditional media have changed the marketing discipline forever. Broadcasting marketing messages to a vast population who may or may not care is a formula for failure – so it’s more important than ever to tailor your outreach and messages to connect to people who do care.

Tailoring your marketing to be interesting and relevant to the people who receive it both increases its effectiveness and builds relationships with customers, prospects and contacts. It’s not an task, but it can be made easier by utilizing social media to identify, listen to and connect with the true fans of your company, your peers or competitors – and even your industry as a whole.

Seth Godin, one of today’s most recognizable marketing visionaries, wrote about this on his blog, saying “one true fan is worth perhaps 10,000 times as much as a stranger.”

If this is true, how do you know who your true fans are? How do you effectively market to them? What do they care about? Here are some suggestions on how to use social media to guide a true fan marketing strategy.

Identify the right fans – The first step is simply understanding and knowing who your true fans are. True fans aren’t necessarily people who are evangelists of your company. They could be proponents of the broader category of technology that you sell or could even be fans of your competitors.

Use social media to identify people on the web who have something to say about you, your competitors or your industry and follow them. Twitter is an medium for identifying fans, but you can also identify relevant blogs, Facebook fans and LinkedIn group participants who will add to your list. If you could create a list of the 1,000 people who cared most about your industry and who influenced others, what would it be worth to you?

Listen to your fans – Once you have identified and followed the fans of your company and your industry, listen to them. Establish a process for regularly watching the trending topics of the people who care about your space.

Fish your pond, not the ocean – If all you are fishing for is fresh water trout, why look for them in the ocean? Search is an extremely important component of your marketing strategy, but it isn’t precise. Google and other search engines require you to be highly specific in your search terms. Otherwise you are flooded with irrelevant data. Similarly, wouldn’t it be nice to refine search to the output from your true fans?

Create a data feed from your fans outputs and then use search more effectively on broader terms. An example: I’ve worked in the security industry, but looking at a Twitter feed of anyone who mentions “security” isn’t that useful. There is simply too much data. By searching on that same term from the 1,000 people who care about my space, everything changes.

Engage with your fans – Once you know who your fans are and what they’re about, you can more effectively interact with them. Reply to their tweets, comment on their blogs, or generate original content that addresses an emerging topic your fan base is about. All of this will strengthen the connections to your closer community.

Market to your fans – Your true fan list should be one of your most valuable marketing assets. As you establish these contacts, your marketing promotions can become that much more effective and viral. Keep your fans top of mind when you do any of the following things:

• Solicit product feedback
• Launch a product
• Promote an event
• Publish a whitepaper
• Host a webinar or forum

Give your fans the tools to market for you – The whole point of marketing to your fans is that they have reach and influence that you simply won’t be able to achieve. Generate promotional items and marketing content that your fan list can get behind, promote to their own network and evangelize on your behalf.

Your pipeline growth from these efforts will be of a much higher quality and allow your sales team to be much more productive with their interactions.

Many companies spend an enormous amount of time and energy focusing on how to grow their contact database and marketing to that list. That time can be better spent, though, by understanding who your fans are and using them to increase the quality of that index and the effective use of your limited resources.

Review: This is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I love that story and I love this book. The book, which will be released as a movie on July 30, 2010 (starring Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, and OMG Neil Patrick Harris — they couldn't have picked anyone better), was a great story. Not the most well-written book I've ever read, but I found it super enjoyable. Probably was a little old for it (I'm 18); the writing was really easy to understand, so I'd suggest this for 9th graders, I think. But those younger and older, of course, can enjoy it as well. The changes made to the story were really interesting and the book in general was definitely worth it. Give it a read!

Worst part: I really wish the quality/difficulty of the writing was greater. Also, I feel there was something not quite right about Kendra's character. Maybe a bit immature?

Best part: I seriously love Will. He should have gotten a love interest, IMHO.

and if your wondering why i'm lookin at this light stuff so much…its cause i might end up riding to
wallyworld sometime at nighttime, and if i do, i wanna have plenty of light seein where i'm goin and stuff ya know?

ya get out there riding and stuff on these bikes at dark, you cant see worth a crap with them little lights, and
worse then that, ya cant see your road too well for what might be on it too.

and truthfully….that bypass could use being repaved in my opinion in a big way too….*including them emergency lanes
and stuff too…
 

and that ramp from the bypass to down there by southern states could use work done on that too *as i thought i was
gonna pop a tire on the emergency lane on that ramp.*

but i'd like to seriously fix this thing up and also get some extra stuff too eventually for it (like spare inner tubes incase tires
goes flat, air horn  like this….)

and i've thought about some tail lights and maybe a safety orange vest…i've thought about a better shape basket and
cargo net too…i'm still tossing it all around and seein what all is available ya know?

man……they said i'm lookin at temps bein in them 60's this weekend…

thats gonna be some cold temps compared to what were use to huh?

anyways…like i said…nothing is definate, but i'd like to get the bike all set up once and for all ya know? 

and am i gonna ride that bike in 60 degree weather?  i might….

ha! i might be riding this thing in the winter months too with them coverall's on for all ya know….

and i aint throwing more money into a bike that people are gonna let get tore up, cover up for, fabricate lies,
and then wants to think i'm too damn nieve to know that since they've done proven to me what lengths they'll

they cant just lie and say there camera's didnt say nothin and continue to cover up for people ya know?

as far as i'm concerned…..seriously???  if there was any kind of justice at all….someone from hud would
be tellin these people to fork out some money for how they did me in the amount to not only buy me a new
ride all together, but also to get me that piece of land and cabin on it as well….

like i said…they discriminated against me, they used me, they endangered my welfare, they let covered up not dealing
with people tearing my bike up, they covered up and didnt deal with people puttin there hands on me….and i will
forever have to live in there stinkin scars and will never feel i can have a normal life here or feel i can even have
transporation outside for them lying and covering up for them.

to me, they need to make restitution to me in the tune of no less then $25,000 (cause this aint the first time either
that they used me and tried to make me take the fall either….this is the second time…and with a different regional,
and alot more stuff happening this time too with people puttin there hands on me, tearing up my ride, me losing
months of sleep for trying to protect stuff, my sleeping schedule, out money for increased insurance, out money
for survellance camera that they wouldnt let me mount outside cause of them lying saying we had camera's
coming soon that didnt even get here til like 2 months after them tellin me that and my bike being continuously
hit…..)

and i aint gonna change my mind about this stuff your gonna see no matter how this time passes…..cause i'm
fed up with everyone runnin there stink on me, and stickin it to me in the pocket, and using me, and more then that,
i'm really fed up with this crap of being discriminated against cause i have disabilities too….
